I was there in the mid 70s....when I got there I had no direction..no discipline...no purpose...I left 3 times only to be returned...that alone was what help for them staff cared. Mr Dorn..Mr Blythe..Ms Hiatt..Ma Betty...Ma Mariland..and Ms Fitzgerald in the school...all help me b me and grow into the man I am today. At the time of my "graduation " I left with the highest honors at that time. Went through the phases a total of 4 time in the 13 months I was there. Growing up in that time period it was the best I had and I came from a middle class working blue collar family. Wish I could come and speak to those there and try to instill to them my life experiences and maybe I can save one like I was and be face to what life can do for you. Wish I could also just visit occasionally and listen to the kids and give them all food for thought.

I have known about Starr for five years, and I have heard so many great stories from people they have helped. Their students have gotten emotional support, scholarships, and more, and it's a shame that more of those people aren't speaking up. Unfortunately, people seem to only want to talk about an organization if they didn't have a good experience.

I went to Starr back in the late '60's and early '70's...I was notorious for running away...but grew to like the place...I wanted to stay and graduate h.s. but wasn't able to... i too was in Ceeley and one other but the name escapes me...my best friend back then was Russell Richardson.
